What to do and what to expect from each part of the city
Old Town
History · Food & drink · AtmosphereMarbella’s most authentic neighbourhood. Narrow streets inherited from the Andalusian medina, flower-filled pots, the Plaza de los Naranjos as the social heart, and a food scene that runs from breakfast to the last coffee of the night.
Its layout comes directly from the Andalusian medina. The Plaza de los Naranjos is the historic and social heart of the neighbourhood. Calle Carmen, with its traditional stairways and flower pots, is the most photographed spot in the Old Town.
There are options for breakfast, tapas at lunchtime, a relaxed dinner and a late drink in the squares. All within walking distance of the apartment.
City Centre
Services · Shopping · Urban connectionMarbella’s most practical area. This is where the everyday gets sorted: shops, supermarkets, pharmacies, banks and taxi stops.
The city centre is the natural connection point: from here you can walk to the Old Town, the seafront promenade and the main transport stops. Parking available for those travelling by car.
A varied dining offer for every moment of the day: terraces, restaurants and the occasional rooftop with views. Gyms available for those who want to keep up their routine.
Seafront Promenade
Beach · Marina · OutdoorsThe coastal path starts practically at the apartment and runs in two directions. The best setting for both sunrise and sunset.
Heading east: quieter in character. At 1.2 km, Puerto Marina La Bajadilla. From 1.6 km, a wooden boardwalk: 2.5 km through coves and protected coastal vegetation.
Heading west: growing hotel presence and terrace life. Seafront restaurants and a natural connection to the Golden Mile.
Golden Mile & Puente Romano
Elegant afternoons · High-end diningThe western corridor between the city centre and Puerto Banús. Landmark hotels, beach clubs and a refined social scene.
Puente Romano is the key reference point: over twenty restaurants and bars, its own beach club and La Plaza as the central hub, buzzing from lunchtime through to the early hours.
The nightlife in this area has a distinctive, exclusive character. Best reached by car or taxi.
Puerto Banús
Marina · Luxury · Half-day planThe most iconic marina on the Costa del Sol. International designer boutiques, El Corte Inglés and the best views of Sierra Blanca from the pier.
Dior, Gucci, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton and Cartier all have their own boutiques along the marina promenade. El Corte Inglés covers fashion, homeware, technology and food.
Getting there: by car or the ferry from Marbella’s Puerto Deportivo, which avoids parking and adds real value to the day.
La Cañada Shopping
Practical shopping · Large formatMarbella’s main shopping centre. Fashion, homeware, technology, supermarkets and dining all under one roof.
On foot
Three walks from the apartment, no car or transport needed
Parque de la Alameda is less than two minutes from the apartment and the natural starting point for exploring the Old Town. A historic garden with Andalusian tiled benches, palm trees and fountains. From here, cross the street and head straight into the Old Town via Calle África, the first gateway into Marbella’s historic heart.
Calle África and the square of the same name set the tone for the first stretch of the walk: terraces, churro stalls and the unhurried rhythm of the neighbourhood before the day gets going.
From Calle África the route continues to Plaza de la Encarnación. The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación stands on the very spot where the medina’s main mosque once stood. A quiet place to pause before moving on.
Nearby is Calle Carmen, whose traditional stairways covered in blue flower pots are the most photographed spot in Marbella. The centrepiece of the walk is the Plaza de los Naranjos, the historic heart of the city since the 15th century: terraces shaded by orange trees, the Town Hall, and the atmosphere of a deeply Andalusian neighbourhood.
The walk ends at Calle Ancha, which reflects Marbella’s growth beyond the limits of the original medina. Wider and more stately, it connects the Old Town with the modern city centre and makes a natural finishing point before deciding whether to stop for tapas or head back.
This walk starts by heading down Avenida del Mar. At the seafront you reach Playa de la Venus, the beach closest to the apartment: sandy, accessible and perfect for a first taste of the coastline. From here the promenade heads east, where the atmosphere gradually becomes quieter and the surroundings more natural.
Continuing along the promenade you reach Playa Padre, the closest beach club to the apartment with no car needed. Boho aesthetic, ambient music and sun lounger service. If the plan includes a beach club without any travel, this is the most straightforward option.
A little further on, Puerto Marina La Bajadilla opens up — Marbella’s marina. A relaxed atmosphere, boats of all sizes and the ferry departure point for Puerto Banús, ideal for those who’d rather skip the car. There are also waterfront terraces for a rest stop along the way.
Past the marina begins the wooden coastal boardwalk, running 2.5 km through natural coastline, quiet coves and protected coastal vegetation. The destination is the Parque del Mediterráneo, an ecological reserve with dunes that offers a completely different environment from the urban centre. The trail is flat, suitable for everyone, and can also be done by bike.
Heading west, the promenade changes character quickly. About 200 metres along stands the Marbella Lighthouse, built in 1864, next to the marina, La Librería and Punto Faro: a small cluster of seafront venues that marks the beginning of the social promenade.
At 800 metres, Playa de la Fontanilla is the most popular beach in the centre: sun loungers, showers and direct access from the promenade, ideal for a swim. Shortly after, at 1.2 km, Plaza del Mar offers an open panorama of the Mediterranean and is a good reference point to decide whether to continue or turn back.
From km 1.5, the asphalt gives way to the albero path — a yellow-ochre compacted earth surface that marks the beginning of the Golden Mile. The atmosphere shifts: less urban density, more greenery, historic hotels and luxury villas. At 2.5 km is Puente Romano, the Golden Mile’s dining hub and a natural turning point for those on foot. Those coming by bike can continue all the way to Puerto Banús at 7.5 km — 15 min by car from the apartment — and return by ferry.

The best spots to watch the sun go down, less than five minutes’ walk from the apartment
Marbella has some of the best sunsets on the Costa del Sol, and most of the options are within five minutes’ walk of the apartment. The range goes from an informal rooftop cocktail to an open-air spot with no minimum spend, a dinner with sea views, or even watching the sun go down from a sailing boat.
The spots
From the most spontaneous to the most planned
No plans, open air: The Pier or the Marina Square — open horizon, no spend required.
Informal cocktail, no booking: Belvue Rooftop — the most spontaneous option with sea views.
Afternoon into night: Terral Club, with music and nightlife built in.
Special dinner with a view: Edge by Paco Pérez. Book ahead.
Puerto Banús
Iconic marina, shopping, beach clubs and nightlife. A destination that changes completely depending on the time of day.
Puerto Banús is one of the most recognisable destinations on the Costa del Sol and deserves a visit in its own right. What makes it special is that it works very differently depending on the time of day: the morning plan has nothing in common with the afternoon, and the afternoon has nothing in common with the night. You can choose just one or string them all together.
Getting there
Car, taxi or ferryPuerto Banús by day
Morning and middayAfternoon and night on the pier
Drinks with music · WaterfrontFrom mid-afternoon the marina atmosphere shifts completely. The pier venues fill up and music starts setting the tone. All of them are right on the waterfront with direct views of the yachts, and they make a natural plan after a walk along the marina or a day at a beach club.
Weekday daytime: Shopping at boutiques or El Corte Inglés + marina + pier + beach club.
Afternoon: Pier terraces — start at Sinatra, move to News Café if you want to turn up the energy.
Night with a show: La Habana de Hemingway, with live saxophone and dancers.
Club night: Mirage, Kube or Vudú. Check social media before heading out.

From the only one reachable on foot to the most exclusive in East Marbella and Estepona
A beach club is much more than a beachside terrace. It’s a space designed for spending the whole day: you arrive, settle into your sun lounger or Balinese bed, eat in an atmosphere with music in the background, and as the afternoon goes on the energy builds. People tend to dress up, and swimming, food, cocktails and music all blend into a single day that can stretch through to sunset or into the night.
Quick comparison
Ordered by distance from the apartmentA full day in Banús: Ocean Club pairs perfectly with the marina, shopping and the pier.
Intimate and gastronomic: COYA Pool at Puente Romano or La Câbane in East Marbella.
Sunset with music: La Plage Casanis and its Sunday Sunset Rituals.
Pool party: Naô Pool Club — the most festive and high-energy option in the selection.
A quieter escape: Nido in Estepona — less crowded and with more character.
Shopping
Three very different options. The choice depends on the plan for the day.
Marbella offers three shopping areas with completely different logics: the pedestrian city centre for browsing and buying on the go, Puerto Banús for luxury brands and large-format retail, and La Cañada for getting everything done in one place regardless of the weather.
Puerto Banús
International brands · El Corte Inglés · ~20 min by car or ferry
The best-known shopping destination on the Costa del Sol and one of the most important luxury retail spots in the south of Spain. The offer is organised across two complementary levels.
On one side, the international designer boutiques spread along the marina promenade: Dior, Gucci, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Cartier, Bulgari and other top-tier brands with their own standalone stores in a waterfront setting. A shopping experience unlike any shopping centre: luxury window displays with the marina as a backdrop.
On the other, El Corte Inglés, covering a much broader range: fashion for every profile, homeware, technology, quality food and services. The most complete option for varied shopping without needing to go anywhere else.
City Centre & Old Town
Walkable shopping · No transport needed · On foot from the apartment
The most accessible option from the apartment, with no transport required. The city centre offers a varied mix: well-known fashion and accessories brands sit alongside independent boutiques, craft shops, jewellers and local product stores.
The Old Town adds a more distinctive element: shops tucked between the historic alleyways offering one-of-a-kind pieces that are hard to find in conventional retail formats. There is no single large store or set route — it’s a scattered offer discovered on foot. Ideal for anyone who wants to combine shopping with atmosphere, a terrace stop and a sense of place.
La Cañada Shopping
Large format · Accessible by car only
Marbella’s main shopping centre, located outside the pedestrian urban core and only accessible by car. Under one roof it brings together the widest offer in the area: fashion from national and international high-street chains, homeware, technology, leisure, supermarkets and a large dining area.
The most efficient option when the goal is to cover several different categories of shopping in a single stop, without depending on the weather or a walking route. It lacks the character of Puerto Banús and the charm of the city centre, but it comfortably covers any practical need.
Where to find what
Quick summary by areaNightlife
Marbella’s night starts late and ends even later. A practical guide to choosing well.
Marbella’s nightlife is split between two areas with very different profiles. The Golden Mile and Puente Romano concentrate the most exclusive and intimate options, with dinners that lead into clubs and high-level shows. Puerto Banús has its own ecosystem: more international, more crowded and with a different energy. Most venues don’t fill up until midnight; typical hours run from 00:00 to 06:00.
Golden Mile · Puente Romano
More distinctive venues · ~15 min by taxi
Puerto Banús at night
International crowd · ~20 min by taxiPuerto Banús has its own nightlife ecosystem, different from the rest of Marbella. In high season the port area draws luxury tourism, a club atmosphere and a lot of street energy. It’s fun and has plenty going on, but it’s worth arriving with a clear idea of where you’re headed and checking social media before you go out.
Best dinner + club combination: Momento — Nikkei cuisine until 05:00 and international-level electronic music.
Dinner with atmosphere before moving on: Mosh Fun Kitchen — Mediterranean-Japanese fusion, terrace and a building atmosphere.
Evening with live entertainment in a luxury setting: Mamzel at Puente Romano. Check the programme before going.
Live show + club in Banús: Vudú — dinner, show and party all in one place.
Classic international club night: Mirage or Kube in Puerto Banús. In all cases: check social media before heading out.
Sea · Water Activities
Sailing trips from Puerto La Bajadilla — 10–15 minutes on foot along the seafront promenade
Marbella Sailing has been operating from Puerto Marina La Bajadilla for years with a level of professionalism and care that is apparent from the very first contact. The team speaks Spanish, English and French, and takes care of everything: boarding, setting the course, music on board and whatever else is needed to make the day go exactly as the group imagines.
They have two 12-metre sailing boats: stable, comfortable and well equipped for groups of up to 9 passengers. These are not standard tourist pleasure boats — they are real sailing yachts from which to enjoy sailing under canvas, the silence of the Mediterranean and perspectives of Marbella, Sierra Blanca and the coastline that simply cannot be seen from land.
One of their greatest strengths is flexibility: they don’t work to a fixed itinerary. A conversation beforehand shapes the plan, and they adapt it to the size of the group, the time of day and what each person wants to experience on the water.

Taxi in Marbella
Our recommendation for getting around the city and surrounding areaFor getting around Marbella and its surroundings, our recommendation is the local taxi. Drivers know the streets, the shortcuts and the area at a level of detail that apps don’t always match. Their service is more reliable than alternatives such as Uber or Cabify, particularly on weekend nights, time-sensitive transfers or whenever punctuality matters.
